[ASPUG] Adelaide SharePoint User Group September 2017 Newsletter

Greetings and Salutations,

There is a bit of information in this months newsletter in relation to some handy and useful content for SharePoint and Office 365, as well as some notable releases for SharePoint 2016 as Feature Pack 2, More details are below!

At this months meeting we have Harsh Mishra from Empired Ltd who is presenting on “The Future of SharePoint Governance”, where Participants will gain a better understanding of Office 365 platform, its architecture and most importantly, why the experience of Office 365 is completely different than classic SharePoint and how Microsoft is using there Service Based Design concepts to completely transform the world of collaboration, more details below!

The agenda for this month’s activities are:

How SharePoint Governance is changing to Office 365 Governance or may I say to Business Governance by the introduction of Azure B2B, Azure AD Dynamic Groups, Azure Information Protection, Machine Learning, Artificial Inelegance and Cognitive Services. And as a result, how the three foundation pillars of information architecture are transforming that has been followed for past 2 decades:

1. Operational Taxonomy

2. Navigational Taxonomy

3. Business Taxonomy

SharePoint / Office 365 P&P YouTube Channel

SharePoint / Office 365 Dev Patterns & Practices YouTube Channel – This YouTube channel, by Microsoft contains videos which such as: weekly web casts, demo videos, tutorials and other videos release by the PnP initiative.

This is a great resource and worth a few minutes checking out the videos and playlists!

PnP Short is a playlist on the SP/O365 P&P YouTube channel which contains short and quick guidance videos on specific topic around SharePoint development. Key objective of these videos is to provide quick answers on the most common questions and provide step-by-step guidance on specific objectives.

This is a great resource and many videos are produced by Vesa Jovonen who is a Senior Program Manager for Microsoft.

Feature Pack2 for SharePoint 2016

SharePoint Server 2016 Feature Pack 2 contains SharePoint Framework client-side web part support with classic SharePoint pages.

The SharePoint Framework (SPFx) is a page and web part model that provides full support for client-side SharePoint development, easy integration with SharePoint data, and support for open source tooling. With the SharePoint Framework, you can use modern web technologies and tools in your preferred development environment to build productive experiences and apps that are responsive and mobile-ready from day one.

Office 365 Road Map

The Office 365 Roadmap shows updates that are currently planned, scheduled, rolling out, cancelled, etc for applicable subscribers.

Updates are at various stages from being in development to rolling-out to customers to being generally available for applicable customers world-wide.

SharePoint Framework Extensions

One for the developers: SharePoint Framework Extensions Release Candidate (SPFx v1.2) now available! – You can view the tutorials at http://aka.ms/spfx-extensions

With SharePoint Framework Extensions, you can customize more facets of the SharePoint experience, including notification areas, toolbars, and list data views. SharePoint Framework Extensions are available for testing in first release tenants and in Office 365 developer tenants as part of the release candidate release.

Note: The SharePoint Framework Extensions are currently in preview and are subject to change. SharePoint Framework Extensions are not currently supported for use in production environments.

Digital Workplace Conference

DWCAU has concluded for this year! Previously known as the SharePoint Conference, this event was the 8th annual event held by ShareThePoint Ltd!
